Overview
Amplemarket lets you add iMessage as a stage in any multichannel sequence. When an iMessage step fires, a task appears in the Universal Task Viewer with a personalized message ready to go. One click opens the Messages app on your Mac with the message prefilled and the recipient set. You review, send, and move on. The message comes from your own Apple ID, so it arrives as a genuine personal text.
Like WhatsApp, this is a one-way sequence stage, not a full automation. Amplemarket orchestrates the timing and personalization, but you control the send. There is no tracking of delivery, read receipts, or replies within Amplemarket. No messages are sent on your behalf. Amplemarket automatically reveals and enriches phone numbers before executing the task, so you don't need to find numbers manually. You need a Mac or iPhone with iMessage enabled to use this step.
iMessage is the dominant personal messaging platform in the US market, where the majority of smartphone users are on iPhones. For prospects in the US, an iMessage follow-up feels more natural and personal than WhatsApp, which skews more international. The result is a channel that feels intimate and high-signal. When a prospect sees a personalized iMessage from someone they've already spoken with, it reads as a real follow-up, not a sales touch.
What you can do
- Add iMessage as a sequence step Insert an iMessage stage into any multichannel sequence. Define your message template with dynamic fields and set the timing relative to other steps.
- Personalized message templates Write iMessage messages using dynamic fields like {{first_name}}, {{company_name}}, and {{custom_field}}. Each message is pre-populated when the task fires, so every text reads like it was written individually.
- One-click send from your Mac When the iMessage step triggers, a task appears in the Universal Task Viewer. Click it and the Messages app opens on your Mac with the message prefilled and the recipient set. Review, send, and the task is complete.
- Conditional routing with phone number filters Add a "Has phone number" condition to your sequence so only prospects with a phone number reach the iMessage step. Prospects without a number continue through email or LinkedIn automatically.
- Send from your own Apple ID Every iMessage comes from your personal Apple account. Prospects see your real name and number in their Messages app, making the interaction feel personal and trustworthy.
- Use with Duo Copilot Instruct Duo to include iMessage stages in recommended sequences via your Messaging settings. For example, tell Duo to end all recommended sequences with an iMessage step for high-value prospects.
How it works
- Build your sequence Add an iMessage step to any multichannel sequence in Amplemarket. Write your message template, insert dynamic fields, and set the timing. Add a "Has phone number" condition to route correctly.
- Task appears When a prospect reaches the iMessage stage, a task surfaces in your Universal Task Viewer with the prospect's details and the prefilled message.
- Send from your device Click the task. The Messages app opens on your Mac with the message ready. Review, edit if needed, and hit send. Mark the task as done in Amplemarket to proceed.
Use cases
US-based executive follow-up
Your AE just had a strong demo with a VP at a mid-market SaaS company based in San Francisco. The sequence triggers an iMessage step the next morning with a short, personalized follow-up referencing a specific point from the demo. The VP sees a personal text from someone they just spoke with, not another email buried in a crowded inbox.
High-value prospect nurture after LinkedIn acceptance
A target account's CTO accepted your LinkedIn connection request and liked one of your posts. Your conditional sequence detects the engagement and triggers an iMessage step for the next touchpoint. The message is personal and brief: "Hey {{first_name}}, appreciate the connection. Saw your team is scaling the data platform, would love to share how we helped a similar team. Worth a quick chat?" Delivered as an iMessage, it feels like a natural extension of the LinkedIn conversation.
Conference lead activation
Your team collected 25 business cards at an enterprise tech conference. You import the contacts, and the sequence starts with an email thanking them for the conversation. Three days later, an iMessage step fires for those with US phone numbers. The message references the conference and suggests a follow-up call. Because these prospects met your team in person and are receiving a personal text, the response rate is significantly higher than email alone.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Mac or iPhone to use the iMessage step?
Yes. iMessage requires an Apple device with iMessage enabled. When the task fires in Amplemarket, it opens the Messages app on your Mac (or iPhone, if you're using the mobile workflow). If you don't have an Apple device, use the WhatsApp sequence step instead, which works across all platforms.
Can Amplemarket detect whether a prospect has iMessage enabled?
No. Amplemarket checks whether the prospect has a phone number on file and automatically enriches phone numbers before executing the task, but it cannot determine whether that number is associated with an iMessage account. If you send to a non-iMessage number, the message will fall back to SMS on your device. To maximize iMessage delivery, use this step primarily for US-based prospects.
How is iMessage different from the WhatsApp sequence step?
Both are one-way sequence stages with the same mechanics: personalized templates, one-click send, no tracking. The difference is the platform. iMessage is native to Apple devices and dominant in the US market. WhatsApp is cross-platform and more widely used internationally. Choose based on your prospect's geography and likely messaging platform. You can also use conditional sequences to route US numbers to iMessage and international numbers to WhatsApp.
Can I track whether a prospect read my iMessage?
No. iMessage read receipts are controlled by the recipient and are not accessible to Amplemarket. Amplemarket tracks that the task was created and that you completed it, but it cannot track delivery, read status, or replies. Sequence analytics for iMessage steps reflect task completion only.
Should I use iMessage for first-touch outreach?
No. iMessage is a deeply personal channel. Sending unsolicited texts to prospects who have never interacted with you can damage trust and risk your number being flagged. Use iMessage only for warm prospects, after calls, demos, event meetings, or LinkedIn interactions. Position iMessage steps at the end of your sequence as a high-touch follow-up for your most engaged prospects.
